1971

I entered another time warp the other day; Friday. This time it was 1971. It lasted for about 10 minutes. I was at Chili's with Sue when it happened. Sometimes it only lasts for seconds. Sometimes longer. Usually, I'm alone, but this time there were people around. I'm only mentioning it because no one actually reads this thing. It's not something that you discuss with people. They'll think you're wacko.

21st Precinct - Old Time Radio

Broadcast from July 7th 1953 through November 1st 1956 on the CBS network.

21st Precinct was a very dramatic police drama. CBS decided to use New York City as the backdrop for this series and to focus on the happenings in an actual police precinct. The premise was to put the listener into the drama from the opening phone call until the final report was written.

The 21st was described as
"just lines on a map of the city of New York. Most of the 173,000 people wedged into the nine-tenths of a square mile between Fifth Avenue and the East River wouldn't know if you asked them that they lived or worked in the 21st."
The detail was made up of 160 patrolmen, eleven sergeants, and four lieutenants, under the command of one captain - Frank Kennelly. It was mentioned in each episode's closing that, "21st Precinct is presented with the official cooperation of the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association an organization of more than 20,000 members of the Police Department, City of New York."

The Captain was the primary character and also acted as the narrator. Three actors played the Captain's role: Everett Sloane as Kennelly for the first 109 episodes and returned briefly in episode 135; James Gregory as Vincent Cronin for episode 109-144; and Les Damon as Thomas Keough starting in episode 145 through the remainder of the series. In supporting roles were Ken Lynch as Lt. Matt King and Harold Stone as Sgt. Waters. Santos Ortega appeared frequently as Lt. Patrick "Red" Gorman.

I really should start hanging out here more. I spend most of my time of Wordpress, but it gets obnoxious sometimes with the comments that people leave.

Saturday, July 28, 2012

The new job is cool. I don't feel like a useless person anymore. My birthday came and went. I made a coconut cake. I could kick myself in the butt because I have gained a little weight. The Olympics have started.

Soemtimes, all you can do is shrug your shoulders at the visicitudes of life.

Saturday, July 21, 2012

Ugh! You know who (TT) found a post in which I mentioned them on my Wordpress blog. He left me a comment. He was insulted. Guess what. I don't care.
I really hate how over-zealous I am sometimes. Like Miss America on crack. I really need to work on that. I'm not kidding.

Shooting at Movie Theater

There was a shooting at a movie theater in Aurora, CO. A gunman opened fire in theater 9 during the showing of The Dark Knight. As of now they are saying that 12 are dead (downgraded from 14) and 35 hurt (downgraded from 50). Apparently he kicked in the exit door. At least that's what they are saying. Personally, I don't see how you can 'kick in' an exit door in a movie theater from the outside. Maybe from the inside where the door opens out. IDK. It only happened about 6 hours ago at the midnight showing. There is some cell phone video. Right now the police are in the shooters apartment. The lady on the news just said that 10 of the dead people are still in the theater.

So far Pier One is cool; knock on wood. I have to go in tomorrow at 8:30 to unload the truck. No really a fun job function, but oh well. I just hope that I can handle it okay.

Murder Can't Stop by W.T. Ballard

1

BILL LENNOX was getting drunk. He had been working at it with steady purpose for almost an hour, and he was pleased to notice that the back-bar no longer made a sharp line against the yellow dirtiness of the wall.
Here, then, was proof that he was making progress, and that the quart of Scotch which he had already consumed had not been drunk in vain.
The excursion into the realm of alcoholic bliss was Lennox's way of illustrating a point. It was, he thought, as he watched the bartender open a second quart and pour a generous portion into the glass, what you could expect when a man stuck his neck out to help a friend.
Had he been one who became tearful while in his cups, he might have sobbed at this point, but he was not given to tears. He was angry, angry at himself for ever having embarked on such a life and for ever having let personal friendship sway him in his course.
He had never dreamed that at thirty, he would be an executive in one of the world's largest picture studios. He had not gone to college with that in mind. Nor had he worked three years on a Chicago newspaper in preparation for a producer's existence.
The wienermobile was at the commissary today.

Pinterest is on the fritz right now. It's my newest obsession. I read online that it's now more popular than Tumblr. I can kind of see why. I like them both, but Pinterest is newer for me, so...

Tonight we went to see Ted. It was funny. It kept me amused. A few parts were hilarious.

What's a Matter Baby - Timi Yuro

We were supposed to go to San Antonio at the end of July, around the time of my birthday (ugh). Sue got into a text fight with Mike. Now, she says that we're not going. Good. I didn't want to go anyway. She'll probably change her mind though. I don't even really like Mike, anyway. We'll see what happens.

Yesterday I got almost 3000 hits on my Wordpress blog because of a Jeopardy post. Apparently, the answer was incorrect. The fact that it was a Bible question made it worse. I got quite a few comments.

Sue's in Phoenix until Monday. I have the house to myself. Went to Goodwill and got 2 books. One with short stories and one with 10 stories by E.A. Poe. Went to the dollar store. Got some bathroom stuff.
I'm pissed because I've gained a few lbs. That is unacceptable. I must stop eating.
